Whilst some people may prefer verbal forms of communication others may prefer written (or typed in this case) communication and this is where email counselling comes in.
Email counselling is the secure and confidential exchange of therapeutic emails with a qualified counsellor, it allows you to write down any of your problems or concerns that you need support with. The counsellor will let you know in advance a timeframe that they will reply back to your email.
What Are The Benefits Of Email Counselling?
Writing your thoughts and feelings out can feel more comfortable for some people than saying it out loud. Email counselling can give you more space and time to think about what you want to write, and it can be a form of release and self-reflection. If you feel particularly anxious and nervous about face to face or video call counselling, then email counselling maybe a better alternative for you.
Email counselling is flexible, you don't have to be available at a fixed time or place so you can plan and write your email whenever works for you.
Similarly to video or telephone counselling, you can send emails from the comfort of your own home. You don't even have to be camera or telephone ready! This may suit people who have busy lives or who may have a disability or physical health issues offering a more accessible form of counselling.
For some people who may struggle to find a private space at home for video or telephone counselling sessions, email counselling can offer a more private counselling format. Your counsellor may recommend you both sending your emails from a secure email provider to ensure your email exchanges are encrypted and confidential.
It's important to consider your needs and what might work better for you when it comes to a counselling format. I can help to discuss any concerns or challenges you may have and discuss the different counselling formats that I offer.
